Let the Light In, Southbank Centre, 2016

Description

A series of portraits, photographed by Rankin were designed as part of the centre’s Let the Light In campaign – a fundraising initiative to aid the refurbishment of the Southbank Centre’s 1960s Brutalist buildings which are due to reopen in 2018.

The jewellery showcased were created by prominent UK designers Tatty Devine and Wolf & Moon, and emerging designer-makers including Maria Allen and Materia Rica. The jewellery celebrated the importance of light in the architecture of Southbank Centre’s 1960s Brutalist buildings – Hayward Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room – as the historic venues undergo an important period of restoration.

The photographs was displayed in a one-off pop-up exhibition called Light Up the Room: Portraits by Rankin at the Royal Festival Hall.
