Rankin’s 2020

Description

Rankin 2020 is portrait photographer Rankin’s biggest-ever public project. Across Summer 2020 Rankin, in partnership with Sky Arts, searched to find the best amateur and professional photographers, using social media as a public call-out, Rankin invited photography lovers to photographers, to submit something from their back catalogue, that represents their year in 2020

Split over six chapters (Family, Empathy, Fun, Beauty, Nature andSelf), Rankin 2020 shared Rankin’s tips for home photographers, alongside his own photographic interpretation on the themes. Made in conjunction with the Sky Arts TV series, Rankin’s 2020, each chapter contained images from the special celebrity guests who appeared across the programme, and Rankin’s favourite images sent in by the public.

In addition to the television series, Rankin also published a book titled Rankin’s 2020, dedicated to some of the images which were submitted and proceeds going to Mental Health UK.

Rankin says: “Photography is my life and passion and I truly believe it has the power to reveal and connect. Now we all have cameras in our pockets, I think it’s time to use them. Rankin’s 2020 is an open call to anybody who thinks they can take a great picture. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve never taken a photograph before or you’re a professional, I want to see your view of our world. Together we can document this crazy year and make something positive out of it.”
