Rankin has always dedicated time to charity projects, working with organisations including PETA, Women’s Aid, Macmillan Cancer Support, Endometriosis UK, Battersea, Oxfam and the NHS, to name a few. From travelling to Kenya with Oxfam in 2011, to Brave the Shave with Macmillan, anti-fur campaigns with PETA, Fashion Avengers with Project Everyone, and commemorating genocide survivors for Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, his work continues to highlight important social issues. In recent years, he photographed NHS staff, patients and volunteers for the NHS’s 75th anniversary, collaborated with Movember. In 2024, he worked with Acid Survivors Trust International on Tear Couture, a powerful book project that aims to prevent acid attacks. Recently, Rankin teamed up with Animal Free Research UK to shoot Herbie’s Heroes for World Animal Free Research Day, a striking campaign calling for an end to animal testing. Through it all, Rankin uses his lens as a force for empathy, to spark change and give visibility and a voice to those who need it most.
